Extremely rare pair of Bronze and polychrome cobra candlesticks in superb condition.
Beautiful patinated dark bronze with the original hand painted detailing still present, these are a very unusual find, not quite one of a kind but really not very far off (you can find 20th century brass versions commonly, these are not to be confused).
Condition is superb, one cobra has a small dent to the tip of the tail (see images) and there a couple of tiny areas where the un-patinated bronze is now visible but you have to look hard to notice these.
Surface is generally very dark, these have been photographed near an orange light to minimise metallic highlights obscuring the detail, but I have included a plainly lit image to show the tone of the bronze accurately as well. Both cobras are 22cm tall, one has a tail raised from the surface and the other lays flat and there are small discrepancies in the patterns of each but essentially a matching pair. I have concentrated on images of just the one cobra for this reason but I can email additional images if required.
