Super charming pair of 19th century portraits. These two are the antithesis of so much of Victorian portraiture: Young, happy, working class and beautiful.
This young man knows he looks great, while the young lady seems embarassed and flattered at the attention. Together they make for a wondeful pairing and demonstrate a degree of unforced naturalism rare in portraiture of any age.
The canvases are in good overall condition, with just some baginess to the bottoms where the wooden support structure of the frame has pushed against them. They are unglazed so may benefit from a professional clean, though the colour does seem clean and bright to both.
The frames are gorgeous and have the original unrestored gilding though there are losses to the gesso. See images for detail, please feel free to request further images.
Pictures inclusive of frame are 55cm x 43cm each
