An especially charming and wonderful rug. This was bought in Nepal in the early 1980's and appears to be earlier, 60's/70's.

Very rare to see an original vintage faux tiger rug like this. Modern versions are fairly common and lack the quality and style, being poorly made, simplified and garish. This is an exceptional quality, hand knotted rug. It has a soft handle with a dense weave normally only used on much more complex, curvilinear designs. An industry professional has advised us this quality would cost £500 psqm for a manufacturer to produce in Nepal today.

This is a vintage piece and there are some signs of age. A couple of the claws are curling in now, this is down to the fine knot count causing tension that wants to draw the weave inwards. This is expected on a quality rug with any age to it. It may be possible to steam iron (from the reverse, whilst covering with a cloth) these straight, and if hanging they can be tacked in place on the wall. There is evidence of "Bite" from old moth damage, where the pile is shorter in affected places. Please see images.

Colours are strong, vibrant and naturalistic. It has just been professionally cleaned and is ready to go. A very rare and charming piece.
